Elmwood 1820 Bed & Breakfast Inn

For nearly 200 years Elmwood has been the historic and architectural crown jewel of the "original" Washington. Its lawn, sweeping porches, and expansive rooms have been home to prominent families over many generations. Today, Elmwood remains an icon of style and sophistication with its eye-catching Italianate detailing and eclectic well developed charm. A privately-owned fine residence operating as a luxury Bed & Breakfast Inn, Elmwood 1820 offers one of a kind nightly accommodations, as well as a spectacular stage for the most memorable of events to those who were born to wander, find adventure, and seek respite in the most unique and curious of places.
Stayed at Elmwood 1820 and highly recommend. Beautiful, comfortable, unique and welcoming. This is an absolute jewel and will make sure to go back.

Absolutely Perfect! Simply Amazing! Just leaving with heartfelt sadness as our weekend has come to an end. Our stay was over the top, thanks to the professionalism, promptness and the culinary genius of the owner. No matter what you have experienced, this Bed and Breakfast, along with its owner, Richard Smoot, and staff, exemplify hospitality and culinary delight beyond anything we have ever experienced. We will surely return for future celebrations and relaxation retreats.

Stayed here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The Elmwood was a grand home. It was once the "main" house for the Elmwood Plantation. The Bed and Breakfast is within a 5 minute walk to the Washington Waterfront. The service was great and Richard (one of the innkeepers) makes the best biscuits I have ever eaten. The breakfast Richard prepares is very delicious and he puts his own spin on breakfast staples. If he makes the "Dutchbaby" pancake you are in for a special treat.

Richard and John are wonderful hosts and fabulous chefs! Our breakfast was absolutely delicious and they accommodated my husband's food allergy without any problems. The Inn was clean and the beds were comfy. I simply cannot say enough nice things about Elmwood. We would love to stay here again!
